This is really a review of my order for dried chestnuts from a month or so ago, not my most recent order. From that you can understand that they were good enough for me to reorder. But they're NOT like fresh chestnuts. They lack the intensity of flavor or fresh chestnuts. Would I buy them to eat as chestnuts? No. But they're good enough to use in chestnut stuffing, a favorite. Why am I using them for chestnut stuffing rather than fresh chestnuts? Because, at this stage of my life I simply don't want to go through the hassle of scoring, roasting and peeling fresh chestnuts. And fresh, frozen chestnuts -- with their insane shipping costs are just prohibitively expensive. Additionally, it sure would be customer friendly if the packaging contained instructions on how to prepare them, how long their shelf-life is, and the best way to store them. One should not have to go back to the website -- or be sure to read what appears at first to be a packing slip inn the shipping box to get that information. Right now I have two 1-lb. bags sitting in my freezer awaiting use later next year when the urge for chestnut stuffing becomes overwhelming. That'll be nice. They're not perfect, but I expect that I'll buy them again for use in chestnut stuffing next year.
